Country Queer, a digital media outlet and magazine dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices in country and Americana music, is starting Pride month off with virtual concerts. The shows are set to take place on June 1st and June 2nd at 8 p.m. (CST) on YouTube Live and will be broadcasted for free. The concerts are meant to bring attention to Country Queer’s new crowdfunding campaign called “Taking Flight.”
The lineups for each concert spotlight some of the most notable names in country and Americana’s LGBTQ+ community. The set for June 1st includes an opening by Adeem the Artist and performances from Mary Gauthier, Jaimee Harris, and Crys Matthews. Mya Byrne will open the June 2nd live stream that will also feature performances from Aaron Lee Tasjan, Jaime Wyatt, and D’orjay the Singing Shaman.
According to Country Queer’s website, Taking Flight is meant to continue their goal of elevating the music of marginalized communities as they say, “Country music has a long and ugly history of shutting out the voices of folks who are not white and straight. We’re challenging that by lifting up LGBTQ+ voices in country music. We do it with an online magazine, podcast, artist directory, curated playlists, and more. We’ve already established an outsized influence in Nashville. Join us in Pride as we take our mission to the next level and create a professional media organization that will have a serious impact.”
To support Country Queer, you can visit their webpage at https://countryqueer.com/, check out their artist directory to get familiar with more queer country and Americana acts, and support their Taking Flight campaign in order to challenge the culture of country music.
