5 Songs By Cam You Need To Know

Cheers to Cam and another year around the sun! The singer celebrated her 38th birthday over the weekend, and what a year it’s been. With a background in psychology, her intelligence and ability to connect with her audience are evident in her songwriting. She is known for her unique perspectives and very original songs. Here’s a list of some of her songs that we all know and love:

1. “Burning House”

This was released in 2015, as the second single off her second album, Untamed. After finding out her ex-boyfriend was attending a party she was going to, she had a dream that she was attempting to rescue him from a house fire. This song had so much success that it was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and sold over one million copies in the United States within the first year of release.

2. “Diane”

Cam is a talented songwriter with unique perspectives in her music. This one is no different, being the inverted point of view of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene." She has talked about how this anthem is the apology that so many spouses deserve, but never get. “Diane” is the other woman coming forward to break the news to the wife about the affair, once she realized that he was married. The ability to create a response song that is so well curated both from the instrumental side and also the songwriting side is tough to do and Cam nails it every time.

3. “Redwood Tree”

As the first single from her album The Otherside, which was released in 2020, this one is a tribute to Cam’s childhood in California. She compares the bittersweet passage of time to the long-living redwood tree. Growing up, there was a tree that grew in her backyard that she spent a lot of time in and dreaming of the future. Life moves fast and it can feel bittersweet to slow down and reflect on simpler times. Once again, Cam has a way of pulling at the heartstrings while showcasing her vocal talents.

4. “Hungover On Heartache”

Everyone can relate to a song about heartbreak, whether that’s romantically or with a friend or a family member. This one is specifically about a romantic heartbreak that’s just hard to move on from. Referencing fights that lead to cheap shots and hurtful words, this explores that feeling of waking up the next morning and having to face the words spoken the night before. These really hard times of life can seem like they are never ending and steamrolling ahead. Heartbreaking and relatable, it’s also catchy and easy to play on repeat.

5. “Down This Road”

Another bittersweet song, this one reflects on going back home after moving away. This can really hit home for some, as it’s easy to take a step back and realize that a lot of time has passed. She sings about how it’s been too long since she has seen her parents and that things still seem the same as she remembers as a child. As soon as the song starts, there’s a nostalgic sound and you can hear the longing for simpler times in Cam’s voice.
