Matt Roy is among a talented pack of singer-songwriters in Nashville today. Coming from New Jersey, Roy is no stranger to setting himself a part from those around him. With plenty of song credits to his name, including a #1 song by Chris Janson, Roy also has his own music to show everyone his artistry. He discussed his career so far, new music, and hopes for the future with The Nash News.
Country music found a young Roy in his small town in the garden state. Fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen was one of the many artists Roy found inspiration in. "My dad used to play music in the car all the time. Everything from Springsteen to Tom Petty," shared Roy. When he was 8 years old, Roy asked his parents for a guitar. He began singing and performing in cover bands by the age of 12. "Music just connected with me, and I guess i just haven't stopped since then," said Roy. While rock music was what he was drawn to at first, the country sound soon made its way into his orbit. A friend's dad played Kenny Chesney, and the singer was hooked. "I just want to make what makes me feel something," Roy simply put.
Roy moved to Nashville full-time in 2014 and has been writing and performing in music city ever since. He is a signed writer to Big Machine Music. As previously mentioned, Roy helped write "Done" by Janson that went #1. The only downside, Roy shared, was that the pandemic made it unable to have a proper #1 song party. The singer-songwriter has also written tracks that have been recorded by Morgan Wallen, Kane Brown, and Jake Owen to name a few.
"Mary & Me" is his brand new single. It's a captivating and nostalgic look at a past relationship. "What I really like about this song is that it's a complete story," shared Roy. The song came together quite naturally. Roy picked up a guitar and the words just started to fall into place. After listening to the track, it should be hard for everyone not to fall in love with it. Roy has been hard at work in the studio and plane to release more of the songs he's recorded in the very near future.

I found this collection of country songs tied to mental health awareness both thoughtful and meaningful. The context you provided added depth beyond just listing tracks. I recently encountered a similar cultural discussion on https://kjleisure.com/ and it’s great to see music framed in such an impactful way.
Highlighting country music through the lens of mental health awareness was both meaningful and well researched. The song selections added emotional depth to the topic. I came across a similar music culture conversation on https://trgsupply.com/ and it provided an interesting extension of this discussion.
Compelling and heartfelt, this post beautifully connects country music with mental health awareness. The song selections added depth to the message, and it echoed a cultural discussion I read on thegamecaps that explored https://thegamecaps.com/ music as a tool for emotional expression. Truly meaningful content.
