Best Country Music Bars in Canada
It might be surprising that Canada is jam-packed with some amazing country and bluegrass music bars. Here are just some of our favorites.
1. The Ranch 2.0 Bar & Grill
Canada’s “largest country bar” has weekly line dancing lessons, live music, and Saddle-Up Saturday, a big party that goes from 10-2 p.m. every weekend. Located in Ontario, come out to The Ranch 2.0 for a fun time and a great dance party–Canada style.
2. Rock 'N' Horse Saloon
Rock 'N' Horse Saloon says you should “dust off your boots” and join them for some good ol’ fashioned country sounds. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto’s entertainment district, this place `presents the complete country experience” and won Canada’s Country Bar of the Year in 2019. There’s bull riding, line dancing, homestyle country cooking, and a sound system fully equipped for live music. Doesn’t get much better than that! For all the fun, visit their Instagram here.
3. Cook County Saloon
One of Edmonton’s best country bars is the Cook County Saloon. This juke joint has been hosting great live performers since 1981. At the end of August alone, they booked Brandon Lorenzo, Brad Sims, and Dirt Road Angels to play. Cook County Saloon is a staple of the community, and a truly great venue built on traditional, arcadian values and music.
4. The Dakota Tavern
This Toronto stomping ground has been celebrating the best of the best in bluegrass music for over 16 years. Many of Canada’s most well-known artists have graced its self-proclaimed tiny stage. Past performers include members of Barenaked Ladies, The Skydiggers, Broken Social Scene, Skye Wallace, Blue Rodeo, The Sadies, Serena Ryder, The Avett Brothers, Lowest of the Low, Matt Mays, Gord Downie, Joseph Arthur, Danny Michel, Damhnait Doyle, Steve Poltz and many more. Veteran music booker Yvonne Matsell, who is known for discovering new talent, is running the show now, so it’s a great place for country fans as well as up-and-coming country artists to check out.
5. Horseshoe Tavern
The Horseshoe Tavern, located in Toronto’s Queen West neighborhood has been a Canadian musical institution since it opened its doors in 1947. The front patio and front bar are open 7 days a week, with live music and events in the back bar. Here, you can listen to interesting country bands–more on the obscure side– for a $15 cover charge tops.
