Cassadee Pope “What The Stars See” Single Review

American country singer + songwriter Cassadee Pope has released her first project since releasing her second studio album stages in 2019.

Written by Pope, Jake Ross, and Lindsay Rimes, “What The Stars See” inaugurates with a full guitar sound coupled with pulsed percussion that pays homage to the singer + songwriter’s pop-rock Hey Monday days before Pope’s embark into country music. As the song carries, the guitar becomes more dignified and compliments Pope’s vocals immensely well. Pope has always been skillful in incorporating her past career’s sound with her new sound crafting her own unique unconventional country vibe.

The song was produced by All-American Rejects member Nick Wheeler and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild. Both of these influencers fused their wheelhouses into one exclusive sound signature to Pope. Lindsay Ell has also joined the track in addition to Fairchild’s vocal offerings. The song tackles the want to see into somebody else’s life who was once in yours.

“I was inspired to write ‘What The Stars See’ after sitting outside one night looking up at the stars, curious what their perspective might be looking down on us,” said Pope in a press release. “It made me think back to times in my life when I had just come out of a relationship but still felt so connected to the other person. I imagined having the superpower to be among the stars and observe, from their perspective, an ex moving on with their life (or not).”

On May 14th, PEOPLE.com will be sharing the music video for “What The Stars See.” It was directed by Ed Pryor and will feature both Karen Fairchild and Lindsay Ell.
