Chase Rice "I Hate Cowboys" Song Review

Singer-songwriter Chase Rice has released the brand new song "I Hate Cowboys" in anticipation of the forthcoming album, I Hate Cowboys And All Dogs Go To Heaven.

Rice has long been a fixture in Nashville. His writing credits can be found on various chart-toppers, most impressively including Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise." He also has his own success with songs like "Lonely If You Are," "Eyes On You," and "Drinkin' Beer. Talkin' God. Amen." Rice is now ready to unveil the album he has been working on for quite a while. Due to be released on February 10th, the record pays homage to his late father.

"I Hate Cowboys" aims to give a much different perspective than country music's traditional love affair with cowboys. Rice sings from the point of view of a man scorned by men who ride away on horseback. He sings lines filled to the brim with description and imagery:"'Cause they think that they're John Wayne walking through the door / Turning every head, including yours / Poor things, they've never seen one before / Has got a thing for bad guys, yeah / They ask her to dance while you're at the bar / Starts talkin' 'bout them Texas stars / Next thing you know you got a broken heart."

The song was released in conjunction with the official music video as well. This video drives home the message of the track as it shows endless footage of of the cowboy trope. When listening to the song and seeing those images, it's clear how country this ballad is. Rice provides his signature, casual style while also exploring a deeper question: what do cowboys have that other men don't?
