Cody Johnson Discusses Headlining Festivals and The Success Of "Til You Can't"

Cody Johnson has had quite the big year. After earning his first carer No. 1 with "Til You Can't," the singer also won a CMT award. He has also performed 31 sold-out shows already this year. Just before he was set to headline Country Jam USA in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Johnson talked to us about all of his recent successes.

"Co Jo" was certainly a fan favorite heading into his set. "I grew up playing festivals in Texas, so I saw people were camped out for three days and they start drinking at noon," said Johnson. While he is now a household name, the singer appreciates the work it took to get where he is now. "I didn't realize what it was like to be the headliner for a long time. It's really, really special for me to look back."

It still seems hard to turn on the radio and not hear "Til You Can't." Johnson shared the creation of the song by saying, "When I heard that demo, I knew it was special. I just knew the message was special. It really spoke to me. When we recorded it in the studio, I didn't want to jinx it, but I said to my producer, 'this is gonna be big.'" Safe to say Johnson had the right feeling.

Johnson's most recent album Human The Double Album won the praise of fans and critics alike. The title track was recently sent to radio, but that didn't stop the singer from revealing what is to come. "I just got to recording a live album. We recorded six shows and put it together. I go back next month to record a new project. As soon as that project is done. I'm going back to record another project I got lined up," Johnson exclaimed. He shared that since he's been doing this for ten years, five of those years being an independent artist, there is no stopping him. "It's time to go to work."
