Cort Carpenter "Somebody Tonight" Song Review

After winning Male Entertainer of the year at the Josie Music Awards, Cort Carpenter has surely made a name for himself in the country music world. Being nominated for the same award again in 2018, 2019, and 2020 and being on the main stage at some of country music’s biggest music festivals it is no shock that he blended his vocals to a song created by Sony Music Nashville artist Ryan Hurd and award-winning songwriter and producer Jimmy Robbins.

"Somebody Tonight” is being released as Carpenter's new single for his new album coming out in a few months. Its immediate catchiness, especially in the chorus, poses it as the perfect pre-release.

When the track begins, one might think it to be a sad ballad, but it quickly turns into an upbeat, swaying love song that will get you on your feet and singing along for sure. The lyricism also features unmistakable relatability; many people can connect with the feeling of needing someone and wanting to be there for them.

The way Carpenter is able to tell the story of the song with his own musical twists is extremely unique. While the song sounds like your classic country hit, it has Carpenter's flare to it which makes it stand out from the rest; his smooth, low-toned vocals fit the romantic message perfectly. "If you need somebody tonight / Somebody to love / Somebody to hold yah til the sun comes up / Somebody to change that lonely look in your eyes / Keep looking in mine."
