Country Albums You May Have Missed in 2022

As 2022 comes to a close, we reflect on all of the great music that was released in the past year. Here, we will take a look at some country albums and EPs that slipped under the radar and that some listeners may have missed.

Kaitlin Butts, What Else Can She Do

On April 15th, 2022 Kaitlin Butts released her sophomore record What Else Can She Do. This short, 7-song album takes a more transparent attitude making the storytelling relatable for listeners with visceral imagery and personal anecdotes. Butt's twangy vocals are reminiscent of Natalie Maines from The Chicks with a hint of early Kacey Musgraves. Some standouts include "she's using" and the title track "what else can she do."

Nikki Lane, Denim & Diamonds

Nikki Lane released her album Denim & Diamonds in September of 2022. Lane took five years off from releasing an album, and she sure came back with a big bang. “Black Widow,” one of the last songs on the project, is an immediate highlight. It contains a fun dance beat with the crash of the drum cymbals and her retro-sounding, vintage-soaked voice. The song sounds like it belongs in an old crime movie.

Adeem the Artist, White Trash Revelry

Recently, Adeem the Artist rounded out their year by releasing the boundary breaking White Trash Revelry. From top to bottom, Adeem The Artist takes listeners on a personal journey as they touch on hard-to-talk-about subjects like addiction and trauma; despite its specific call-outs, there's a universal theme that many can relate to. With the help of guitarists Ellen Angelico and Joy Clark, banjoist Jake Blount, and former Turnpike Troubadours drummer Giovanni “Nooch” Carnuccio III, White Trash Revelry has a brand new sound from their last album, Cast-Iron Pansexual.

Alana Springsteen, History of Breaking Up (Part Two)

Rising star Alana Springsteen released her project, History of Breaking Up (Part Two) in the summer of 2022. From one listen, it's easy to tell that this album was written from a deeply vulnerable place. This 21-year-old singer-songwriter is someone to definitely look out for. Some tracks that stand out on the LP and will make you feel all the feelings of heartbreak are “Me Myself and Why,” “Trust Issues” and “That Was All You.” Springsteen shows her listeners what she's learned from a past breakup and displays dazzling growth and maturity. beyond her years.
