Country Stars that Played Baseball

In honor of 2023 MLB Opening Day, we wanted to highlight a few country stars who played baseball before they became household names.

1. Morgan Wallen

It might come as a shock that Wallen never planned on pursuing a career in music. He actually wanted to become a baseball player. That was until he sustained an injury that ended his baseball career. Because of the injury, Wallen chose to grieve through writing and performing his own songs.

2. Brett Young

Like Wallen, Young thought he would become a professional baseball player until he sustained a serious injury to his elbow. In fact, he received an offer to play for the Minnesota Twins in high school. He told People Magazine in 2017, “I had to figure out something else that I was passionate about and the only other thing I loved as much as sports was music and so I started writing songs.”

3. ERNEST

ERNEST was born and raised into the spot of baseball baseball, as his father was the baseball coach at his school. ERNEST loved the game; however, he suffered a heart attack at the young age of nineteen. His baseball career ended, but it never stopped him from enjoying the sport.

4. Scotty McCreery

McCreery went from high school baseball champ to American Idol winner overnight. Though this star was busy touring with Brad Paisley after American Idol, he made sure to put some time into the sport. For McCreery, it is an escape that he is still very fond of.

5. Kenny Chesney

Chesney is not only a huge baseball fan, but also a former player. He compares his life on tour to baseball season: it starts in April and ends around September. Chesney even dreams of playing second base for the Boston Red Sox, his favorite team since childhood. When he’s not on tour, he can be found with his friends in the MLB.

6. Jason Aldean

Aldean was the star player of his high school baseball team. When it came down to choosing a career, he chose to focus on his music, even after receiving an athletic scholarship. Even though he didn’t pursue baseball, it didn’t stop him from being a big fan of the game. He makes sure to follow his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, even while on tour.
