Deborah Parlor Discusses New EP 'Nowhere Land'

Deborah Parlor has the ability to write and perform in a way that connects to anyone who listens. Having released her new EP Nowhere Land, Parlor is ready for her audience to see even more of what she has to offer. The Dutch singer-songwriter discussed her new music and let The Nash News get to see who she is beyond the mic.

Parlor is a product of her beloved country in The Netherlands. While many might be surprised that American country music impacted her Dutch upbringing, Parlor explained how that came to be. "I grew up in the countryside. My dad played everything from Merle Haggard to Johnny Cash to Dolly Parton," Parlor states. She went on to add, "I was drawn to the storytelling of this kind of music. The truth and the honesty that comes from it blew me away."

While living primarily in The Netherlands, Parlor enjoys making trips to Nashville whenever she can. "I came to Nashville in November 2021 to write and record [for] two weeks. It was really great to collaborate with other writers with what I had written by myself," she notes.

Parlor discussed her music genre-bending on the new project saying, "I call my style Americana. The new EP is a combo of country, pop, folk, and rock I would say." Nowhere Land truly does have something for everyone. The title track showcases her effortless vocals and captures her prolific songwriting. Parlor exclaims that she wrote the tune for, "anyone who feels lost and in need of connection." Parlor admits her favorite track might be "Something." "I can play it acoustic with my band, or it can be a dance track," she explains.

"I try to write from the heart as much as I can. Every song I write is my experience or a person close to me," Parlor tells us when asked about her writing process. Her vulnerability can be felt in each of her tracks. She offers excellent depth and radiates what artistry is meant to be. "I hope people can find similarity with the lost soul I describe, and can cope with lost love and lost friendship. I want people to empower themselves through my music. I hope people get strength."
