Newcomer Derek James is set to make waves with his new release "Ocean Is Always Open." The singer-songwriter hopes to usher in his own style of "coastal country."
James hails from sunny California, which is evident in his sound. He enjoys focusing on the melodies that pair well with easy-going lyrics. Currently working on an EP, he is gearing up to show country fans what he is made of. For anyone that loves listening to Kenny Chesney and Jake Owen, James is the artist for you.
This song is personal for the singer. "Before moving to Nashville, I lived in a little beach town along California's central coast. Over the course of my life, I developed a love for the coast and always found refuge in the sea. So, when strict statewide shutdowns were put into effect, I had only one place to go where I could feel like myself - the ocean," said James in a press release.

"Ocean Is Always Open" is a laid-back track guaranteed to cure the summer blues. It has an optimistic essence and message that when all else fails, the ocean is always available. James' voice is soothing and calm, just like the words he sings. "The ocean is always open / The waves are rolling our way tonight / A 24/7 slice of heaven." If James continues writing songs like this one, he'll have plenty of opportunities to win over fans.
