Letting you get to know a little bit about us, and why we love country music, we share with you our favorite country songs of all time. From classics like Garth Brooks and Randy Travis to more modern choices like HARDY and Miranda Lambert, our writers plant their roots in all areas of country music that lead them to The Nash News today.

1. Our writer Jamie takes on a current piece with her choice, “Give Heaven Some Hell” by HARDY (2020)

They write, ”I love how he takes such a heartbreaking, inevitable topic and morphs it into an upbeat, tribute song that anyone can find themselves relating to. He has a special way with words and I think that song showcases that immensely.”

2. Rachel shares with us her country music origin story, beginning with “More Than A Memory” by Garth Brooks (2007)

“This was the first country song I heard (outside of Taylor Swift) that made me want to explore more music in the genre. The lyrics tell a clear story that is undeniably relatable, which makes you feel less alone when you’re going through a heartbreak.”

3. Rebecca touches all our hearts with Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” (2009)

She shares, “The twang of her voice, lyrics, and somber steel guitar can whisk anybody away to embrace bittersweet childhood memories. It’s full of sick-at-heart emotion which is what country is all about to me.”

4. Lesley’s all-time favorite song is “Forever and Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis (1987)

She takes on a more classic route, explaining herself by stating, “His signature voice, along with those lyrics, are the epitome of country music to me.”

5. BJ’s choice, “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band (1988) is a classic that favoritism cannot be denied.

“This song is country story-telling at its best that holds a special place in my heart since it introduced me to the country music genre,” BJ shares, relating to many other fans of the country music genre.

6. Molly takes on a modern route with Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” (2016), defending her choice with personal nostalgia.

“Other than Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift taking over my childhood, in addition to growing up in Nashville, it’s really the first song that got me into country music. I have great memories of my best friends and me screaming the lyrics down backroads in high school, and that’s what always brings me back to this song!”

7. Christina traces back her love for the genre to the 1990s with “Cowboy Take Me Away” by The Chicks (1999).

“Such a tough decision to make but when I look back at my love for country music, it really all started with ’90s country and The Chicks. ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’ gave me that first hint of country living and something that I yearned for and always found in the genre. Every single time I hear that song it makes me feel incredibly emotional and I think that’s why it has to take the title of my favorite.”

8. Jena admires the songwriting in a more recent track, “Merry Go ‘Round” by Kacey Musgraves (2013.

She says, “I love the way she plays around with the nursery rhyme idea and parallels it with a serious and sad idea. I think the songwriting is genius with simple yet complicated lyricism and wordplay. I also vividly remember the first time I saw her perform it live and the way the audience got extremely quiet will always stick with me. It was intensely moving.”
