Hannah Dasher “The Half Record” EP Review

Georgia native Hannah Dasher released her new EP Half Record on Friday, July 9th. The charismatic newcomer shines a light on her musical inspirations while paving her own way. With a voice that takes you back to classic country, Dasher adds something special to the current country landscape.

Dasher is a singer-songwriter that has found herself working with acts such as The Cadillac Three and Brad Paisley. Her look and stage presence could be classified as a brunette Dolly Parton, and her collaborators argue they have more than that in common.

The Half Record starts off strong by showcasing Dasher’s personality. The feel-good song “Leave This Bar” is full of nuances that any woman would want to jam out to. “You’re Gonna Love Me” is a fun track that exudes self-confidence. “If your accent gets thicker after cocktail number three, if that’s you, you’re gonna love me.”

“Shoes” is an honest track that offers even more depth to Dasher’s writing. “If I was in your shoes baby, I’d come running back to me.” While the first verse in the song is Dasher taking the blame for a breakup, the chorus reveals that she still knows she’s worth fighting for, never losing her sense of self in her lyrics and storytelling.

The EP ends with a softer tone, “Girls Call The Shots.” Throughout the track, Dasher sings about the power dynamic in relationships. “Guys buy the drinks, girls call the shots,” is just one lyric that plays to that idea. Dasher seems to have made an EP for every woman out there.
