Jackson Dean Talks Newfound Success Surrounding "Don't Come Looking"
Jackson Dean is an artist on the rise who has his sights on the mountain top. Dean has been all over the airwaves thanks to his breakout single "Don't Come Looking." The singer sat down to discuss how his career is changing and what else he wants to prove.
The Maryland native has a personal style that reflects more of the west than the east coast. He began the process of working on music in what he called a "shack" as he explains, "There's not many kids my age that would willingly go into a one-room with a wood stove, a mattress on the floor, and live there for two years and work." The outcome was Dean's debut album, Greenbroke, which was released earlier this year with critical praise.
He enjoys fusing together a style of country-rock that feels quite contemporary. Dean refers to this as "musical fusion." "I often get asked, 'Where does the running aspect of your tunes come from?' It's not always a physical thing but more mental. You need to let yourself wander because that's where the magic happens," shares Dean.
"Don't Come Looking" continues to chart on country radio to the amazement of Dean. "I'm starting to really realize thats the song that put me on the map, even though I hate saying stuff like that. That song was just me and Luke Dick. we were just hanging out and we had this vibe of three chords and a stomp. I mumbled under my breath, 'If i don't come back, don't come looking for me.'" Dean adds, "He (Dick) can take one minute detail and it kicks open a whole other universe."

Dean received a call he'd never forget when finding out his hit song would be featured on the very popular TV show Yellowstone. "When my agent in L.A. told me, I about fell down. I suspected it was coming because management and Big Machine thought it would be a great idea. It's Kevin Costner. It was unreal man," says Dean. Dean also said that Lainey Wilson's appearance in the show has inspired him to want to do the same. Maybe there is more than new music on the horizon for this dynamic performer.
