Jacob Rice 'Open Tabs At Empty Bars' EP Review

Singer-songwriter Jacob Rice has released a new EP. Open Tabs At Empty Bars has humor, infectious melodies, and lyrics that people could love and appreciate.

Rice had previously released the song "Picture This" to introduce fans to his new music. Having played at various writer's rounds and incorporating multiple genres in his sound, Rice has found a way to appeal to music lovers everywhere. His debut EP, Whatever Floats Your Boat, was released in 2022. Now, he's ready to show off what he's been working on since then.

The opening on the EP is "Float To." It encourages the feelings that come with summertime. The tune is a laid-back, feel-good tune. It also has a tint of being a love song. Rice sings about wanting to do things with the person he cares about most. "Baby you know that I'm easy to please / Yeah and all that I need / While I'm making memories with you."

"Hurt People" has a similar vibe. The acoustic guitar riffs are frequent throughout the project. This song happens to highlight a breakup. Instead of a messy situation, Rice sings about two people needing to work on themselves and find happiness elsewhere. It's a fresh take on the hard feelings that can often come from the end of a relationship.

"Mean It" is a song about hearing somebody wants to get back together, but is not sure how sincere that is. Rice's melodies and voice stay consistent with every song, and this song carries his artistry forward. Whether he's singing about the water or the complexities of romance, he stays authentic.
