Jimmie Allen and Jennifer Lopez Team Up for "on my way"

Jimmie Allen and Jennifer Lopez released a remixed duet version of her song, “On My Way (Marry Me)'' on Friday, May 27th preceding the release of Allen’s upcoming album,Tulip Drive, dropping June 24th. The song was originally recorded by Lopez for the soundtrack of Marry Me, a film she also starred in earlier this year alongside Owen Wilson.

It may seem like an unlikely pairing: Allen is a country singer-songwriter on the rise and Lopez is an already-established emblem of pop stardom; however, the two voices blend effortlessly together, harmonizing and bringing new meaning with a more upbeat, rustic backing track.

The song’s release marks an 11-year reunion for the two artists, who according to Allen, first met in 2011 when he competed on American Idol. Lopez was a judge at the time, alongside Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler.

“I met @JLo for the first time In 2010 as a contestant on @AmericanIdol. As soon as I heard ‘I’m Real,’ I told myself one day we would do a song together and It happened,” Allen tweeted on Thursday. “I’m honored to be a part of the reimagined version of ‘On My Way.'”

“This is the first where I chose to write songs about my own personal experiences, thoughts and hopes.,” Allen shared on his Instagram about the forthcoming release. The album’s title is also deeply personal to Allen – Tulip Drive is the name of the street his late grandmother grew up on.
