Jimmie Allen has released his brand new album Tulip Drive, and it is well worth the wait. Allen takes his talents to new heights with a record that incorporates varying styles of country, hip-hop, and pop.
The very title of the album is deeply personal to Allen. Tulip Drive is the name of the street that his grandmother lived on in his home state of Delaware. This isn't the first time the singer has honored his late relatives. Bettie James released in 2020 took the names of his grandmother, Bettie, and his father James. That record was full of collaborations with singers like Tim McGraw, Mickey Guyton, and Brad Paisley. The collaboration with Paisley, "Freedom Was A Highway" earned Allen another career No. 1.
Allen opens the album by singing, "Lately, i've been getting back to the basics, laying my roots in the pavement, if haters gonna hate, let 'em hate me," on the track "be alright." The song signifies the confidence he has in himself, and his career.

Pun intended, Allen's country music feels as down home as ever. "every time i say amen" feels like a melodic trip into Allen's background. "undo" has the message of loving someone despite them not loving you back, which is prevalent in the country genre. It's one of the more subdued tracks on a record that is full of Allen's personality.
There is also no shortage of songs that bend the genre, something Allen does with effortless appeal. "love in the living room" is a sultry pop and R&B track that stands out amongst the tracklist. The hooks in the song are bound to too catchy to leave your head. "pesos" is bound to get people talking. The song features T - Pain and CeeLo Green. It has Island flavor and sparks an instant party vibe.
If Tulip Drive says anything, it's that Allen will continue to charter new territory as one of the genre's most innovative artists.
