Jon Wayne Hatfield "Good For Nothin'" Song Review

Jon Wayne Hatfield officially released his new single “Good For Nothin’” on Friday, October 14th. This was written alongside Josh Byrd and Alex Pennington Smith and produced by Ed O’Donnell at Ocean Way Studios, it’s already featured on the Nashville Sign in Downtown Nashville.

Hatfield burst into the industry thanks to going viral on Tik Tok and independently released his first few songs, “What A Truck Is For” and “Strong Woman." Spending time on the Music Row Country Breakout chart, this rising country singer-songwriter is one to keep your eye on. Originally from Ohio, he is now living and working in Nashville and proving himself to be a force to reckon with.

With the combination of the upbeat nature of the song and the traditional fiddle, one can’t help but play this on repeat and dance. It’s lighthearted and fun, but still showcases Hatfield’s songwriting abilities. Despite having the grind of work always being prevalent, it’s a great reminder to still be carefree. He starts off the track with the lines, “Mondays are good for coffee / Four in the afternoon, get home from work just to work some more / Work ain’t ever through." It’s evident that he’s able to have a modern country sound, with a nod to the traditional influences audiences know and love.

With a full and raspy tone, he’s got a voice that is mature beyond his 21 years of age. To wrap the song up, the instrumentals back out and a group of friends help Hatfield sing the last few lines.

The more releases that come to the surface, the easier it is to like Hatfield. He has an infectious personality that carries through his lyrics. Refreshing and easy to listen to, it’s no surprise that he has gained a following in a short amount of time.
