Jordan Harvey 'Is It What It Is' EP Review

Jordan Harvey is a singer-songwriter on track to make quite a name for himself. The Scottish native released his debut EP, It Is What It Is which will certainly garner attention in the music world.

Harvey may be from across the pond, but he grew up loving American country music. Looking at the genre's roots, there have been distinct ties to folk music in Europe. It's no surprise that there are plenty of country music lovers overseas for that very reason. Harvey took a leap of faith and moved to Nashville to pursue his dreams. He went on to join the band King Calaway but decided to embark on a solo career. It's only a matter of time before this rising star strikes gold.

"Alabama Girl" is the song that many may know Harvey for. The deeply personal and relatable song ended up going viral on social media. The track titled "I Will" was also released ahead of the EP. Harvey's vocals appear soft and calm, making anything he sings sound effortless.

Harvey's more vulnerable side can be found in "Thing About Change." "I never liked a thing about change / I was dead set on staying my course / Wouldn't let love get in the way / 'Till my stubborn heart fell for yours." Harvey sings about how it feels to have love change someone's direction. The infusion of country pop he often creates comes together in a melodic way on this track as well.

"Along For The Ride" could easily be a top radio contender. The track is all about embracing life as it takes shape. Given how Harvey moved to a new country in pursuit of a music career, that's something he's clearly versed in. The track also can be seen as a love song, as Harvey sings about letting go of any doubts thanks to the person beside him. "I'm holding on for dear life / I might have my hands on the wheel / But I'm just along for the ride."
