Kailey Nicole "Only Call On Christmas" Song Review

Kailey Nicole is kicking off the holiday season with a new single titled, “Only Call On Christmas.” While we all know and love the classics; however, Nicole brings a relatable twist on a Christmas original this year.

While Christmas is often a happy and exciting time for many, it can also be a harsh reminder of the ones we have lost - whether that’s a family member, a friend, or a partner. Within its descriptive and visual lyricism, this song explores the confusion of a relationship in which you no longer speak to that person, but they happen to reach out on Christmas. She sings “You come in with the cold / Keep me on my toes / No one here would know / I’m waiting by the phone / Something about the lights on the tree / Makes me think you might miss me.” From the jump, you can hear the sad, yet hopeful, feeling in her voice. There’s something about the holidays that makes people miss others from their past and sometimes try to reconnect. This tune showcases that aching, longing feeling that can come with the holidays.

Originally from southern California, Nicole moved to Nashville at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the shutdown, she was able to focus on writing and recording. This allowed her to really expand and flourish within songwriting. Despite only moving to Nashville a couple of years ago, Nicole has been throwing out one-liners and hooks since she was a kid. This is evident in her music, which shows off her wry and quick sense of humor.

Already putting out a few singles just this year, Nicole is paving her way in the pop-country sphere. She has had the opportunity to collaborate with other talented songwriters since moving to Nashville, and it will be exciting to watch where she goes from there. Be sure to check her other singles out now and keep an eye out for what’s to come in the upcoming year.
