Kip Moore Talks "Fire On Wheels" and Joining TikTok

Kip Moore has always been known to have a sharp edge compared to his peers in the country music scene. However in the new music video for his leading single “Fire On Wheels,” Moore is seen losing himself in seemingly unchoreographed dance moves. Moore jolts and swings around an empty bowling alley. He chats about the new track stating, “Anytime I played it for people, from my band to friends, people were just like, man it just really makes you want to move. I thought it’d be fun to poke fun at myself.”

Moore also recently joined the popular app TikTok. Again, something fans probably wouldn’t expect given his “go against the flow” personality. Although he does say he was stubborn about it at first, he admits “Times have changed. It is what it is. There’s such a large audience that is discovering music strictly through that.” He continues on, “I’m not gonna use it to do anything other than to play underground songs, to play songs from the record. I’m not gonna try to be something that I’m not.”

Speaking of the new record, “Fire On Wheels,” which has a more thunderous rocking taste compared to previous Moore tracks, it seems to be the start of a new era for the singer. Nearly everything about “Fire On Wheels” was a step away from the normal music-making process for Moore. Typically, songs will begin with a concept or subject matter, but for the fresh release, the instrumental was the driving force. “It just had this infectious, raw energy about it. From the get-go, it felt like a celebration of us and the fans and so we were trying to capture that in a unique way,” Moore exclaimed. It was also co-produced with Jaren Johnston from The Cadillac Three, marking the first time they worked together on a project.

Moore is hesitant to talk about the upcoming record though; he wants all surprises kept quiet. “I can tell you this, there’s a very raw approach to what we did with this record,” he states. “I think every record that I go into, I’m trying to do something different.” For starters, he recorded the upcoming, unnamed LP in an old studio titled Welcome to 1979; a studio where they make indie, indie rock, and Americana records. He wanted an invigorating new perspective on his thorough country sound.

Another thing fans can look forward to, possibly, is a duet with Ashley McBryde that he previously teased on social media. “Ashley has felt like my sister from day one. We have a lot of similarities,” he says. The idea for a collaboration came when they were in Alaska and he was playing a new track nonchalantly. “She grabbed the headstock of my guitar and she said, ‘What in the world is that,’” Moore shares, “She said, ‘Is there any way I can sing on that with yah’ and I was ecstatic about that because she’s probably my favorite singer in the business.”

He went on to point out that the recording of the two came out “amazing” but it’s still on the table of where the song’s gonna land. Moore wants to go against the norm, and country radio is currently dominated by duets.

Despite his attitude towards the duet, Moore is still going to make TikToks and had fun doing cringey dances in front of the camera for his music video. “I’m feeling different. I’m feeling a lot more at peace with my career, still having the fire to make it grow, but I’m more at peace with myself as a person and trusting the people around me that are so sharp,” he explains in quite a vulnerable manner. “For me, it’s just kind of learning to let go of a lot of things.”

Kip Moore will be going on tour this fall on the ‘Fire On Wheels Tour’ with up-and-coming genre-bending band Boy Named Banjo as the support.
