Lauren Alaina 'Unlocked' EP Review

Lauren Alaina has been a fixture in country music. She has taken the industry by storm with hit songs like, “Road Less Traveled,” and her feature on Hardy’s “ONE BEER.” Alaina released her latest EP, Unlocked on June 9th, 2023. The new project consists of six new songs, one of them featuring fellow country superstar Lainey Wilson.

Alaina opens the new EP with “A Walk In The Bar.” She employs her typical country western style with hints of rock and roll and even pop. Alaina does what she does best with the opening track by leaning on expert writing with hard-hitting punchlines and thoughtful verses. Alaina sings about a breakup and how easy it will be for her to move on. She sings, “Tonight, if you see me/ I’ll be drinkin’ for free/ I’ma make movin’ on look so easy/ Who says heartbreak's gotta be hard?/ Gettin’ over you is just a walk, a walk in the bar.”

Another standout track from Unlocked is “Smaller The Town.” With a catchy chorus and

impressive vocals, “Smaller The Town” is an all-around great tune. Alaina sings about how being in a small town makes heartbreak even harder. She sings, “The smaller the town / The more you're gonna see / You know who on a two-lane street / All his friends, your friends too / Who you gonna call, Whatcha gonna do?"

The Georgia native rounds out the EP with superstar feature Lainey Wilson. “Thicc As Thieves” is an instant classic. Get used to hearing this power duet because it is sure to be playing on every country radio station and in every honky tonk and for good reason. The dynamic duo shouts, “Thicker than molasses from the patches to the seams / Stealin’ hearts in our jeans / Us southern girls, were thicc as thieves / We’re thicc as thieves.”

Lauren Alaina continues to dazzle country music fans with genre-bending classics that resonate with a wide audience. Throughout the collection, Lauren Alaina's infectious charisma shines through, creating an instant connection with her audience.
