LeAnn Rimes has released her brand new album god's work. With each song on the record, she demonstrates why she has long been a special talent, and why country music is lucky to have her.
The album begins in a captivating and haunting way. "spaceship" allows for Rimes' signature vocals to take charge. It acts as a calling for wanting something greater than what Earth provides. When she sings, "I never felt like I belonged here / This world wasn't quite ready for me / Whoever's out there in the stratosphere / Got a question for the cosmic engineer," people can feel the longing in her voice. It sets the stage for all she hopes to address on this record.
There are songs on this record that might not seem like regular "country songs." Instead, Rimes aspires to take her artistry where she hasn't ventured before. "throw my arms around the world" is one of those songs. The drum beats and layered vocals feel like folk music from a land far away. "the wild," featuring Sheila E. and rising country sensation Mickey Guyton, begins like a hymnal from a favorite gospel sheet. The lyrics featured on this one stand out from the rest of the album. It presents a story about how society has long looked at women in a judgmental light. "How many centuries have to pass before we ever learn? So, rip the vail, oh, my sweet child / Tf you want to hold the holy / You know you got to kiss the wild."

"how much a heart can hold" is everything a ballad should be. Its lyrics are raw and real while acting as a love letter instead of a call for help. "You take on me, I take on you / God knows it's not an easy thing to do / But we have a lifetime for us to prove / How much a heart can hold." Rimes' soft and spiritual side continues to come out through track seven, "innocent: it details embracing someone's youth and asking that they stay innocent.
"there will be a better day" is the uplifting song everyone needs to hear. While it may sound somber, the words sung provide the foundation for looking on the bright side with the lines, "A sweet forgiveness shining light / Lift the darkness from our night / Help us find the strength to say / There will be your better day."
