Megan Moroney "Girl In The Mirror" Song Review

Megan Moroney is proving she is well-deserving of all the newfound attention she has received. "Girl In The Mirror" is her most vulnerable release to date, and showcases her songwriting unlike ever before.

The Georgia native is gearing up to release her debut album, Lucky, on May 5th. She has shown through her songs "Hair Salon," "Fix You Too," and "Keep The Flowers" that she releases tracks that speak to what plenty of young women go through. With humor that can be self-deprecating at times, Moroney finds ways to relate to her fans. "Tennessee Orange" opened her up to a whole new audience, and she continues to stray away from her peers.

"Girl In The Mirror" is an acoustic, heartbreaking song that can put anyone into self-reflection. Moroney herself has teared up o stage singing it before. There is a raspy quality to her voice that makes just about anything she sings feel natural. Her vocal tone and the emotive melody behind the song make it a hard one to shy away from.

The TRACK is about a girl realizing she has given more of herself to a relationship than she had initially thought. She would rather be there for the guy she loves than for herself. The lyrics conclude that the guy in question doesn't give the girl what she needs and that it's probably time to move on. "The girl in the mirror / She's lost her damn mind / She's gotten too used to / Crying all the time / He puts her down / She puts the pedestal high / The girl in the mirror / She's lost her damn mind." By the time Moroney gets to the standout line, "She loves the boy more than the girl in the mirror," listeners can feel the weight behind the lyrics. It's safe to say this is a tune for every "emo cowgirl" out there.
