Parker McCollum is ready to firmly cement his place in country music. The singer has released his new album Never Enough. The title represents his drive and determination to constantly be the best, although he has learned the journey is just as important as the destination.
"Handle On You" happens to be the number-one song on country radio this week. The lead single was released near the end of last year, and it demonstrated McCollum's love for the classic country he grew up listening to. He loves to write sad country love songs but also tries to release more upbeat tracks to perform on stage. McCollum's style resembles that of Hank Williams Sr. or George Strait. McCollum could never be accused of being inauthentic when it comes to his music.
The album begins like a live concert with the track titled "Hurricane." This track is good at building anticipation as well as showing what is to be expected from the rest of the project. McCollum sings about the intense way a woman can fly in an out of a man's life. "Someday she's gonna get her name on a hurricane," belts McCollum.
As promised, there are plenty of songs for a broken heart. Perhaps none capture the pain quite like "Burn It Down." The tune has gripping lyrics that paint a sad, lost feeling as it showcases McCollum's intense vocal range. "I'll leave my memories inside / And that bed we loved in all night / Every word, every fight, every feeling." McCollum's true soft side can be found in "Have Your Heart Again." He's released several tracks about wanting to have a certain woman back in his life, but this song feels much different. There aren't contemporary references or lyrics about drinking to forget."I would kiss you like the summer rain / And I would shiver when you say my name / and I would cling to it to the bitter end / If I could have your heart again."

Points of reflection are also found on this record. "Things I Never Told You" is a true ballad. The piano glides over a melody that is a true love letter to a mother. McCollum sings about all the things he wishes he could say to her, and that "thank you" is the most important one. "Lessons From An Old Man" is a quintessential country song. There is heart and honesty, and the production resembles the final anthem in a Western movie. The song is about everything a man has learned along the way as McCollum exclaims, "Outrun your wild side / Before you buy that ring / A house on a hill / Don't make you a king / A big fancy car / Gets you nowhere real fast / It ain't always the good guy coming in last."
The album concludes with "Wheel." McCollum likens himself to "a wheel that keeps on rolling," which feels fitting for the closer. The record takes listeners on a journey through a heart that has seen its fair share. The fact that an optimistic song such as this comes out on top is exactly what people hope to hear. McCollum certainly lives up to his own standards.
