Payton Smith “I’m Fine” & “Sounds Like A Good Time” Review
This past Friday, country music singer-songwriter Payton Smith released two new songs called “I’m Fine” and “Sounds Like A Good Time.”
Smith has just recently been announced Artist in Residence at Ole Red Nashville. Beginning April 7th, he will take the stage every Wednesday night to perform some of his new songs and collaborate with special guests. Smith was also named one of 2020’s Hottest Country Artists Under 25 as well as one of MusicRow’s Next Big Things Class of 2021. Smith has been busy the past year lending his talent to support those affected by the pandemic by participating in live streaming events.
“I’m Fine” and “Sounds Like A Good Time” are songs about relationships but each represents different stages of the relationship. “I’m Fine” is a laid-back country song about a relationship after it has ended. This one is a tribute to those who have gone through a breakup and try to hide the emotions and hurt from it from everyone by always saying “I’m Fine.” This is a song everyone can relate to even if you are not going through a breakup. Everyone at some point in their life has told someone they were fine even if they were not actually fine, and this song acknowledges those people.
“Sounds Like A Good Time” is upbeat and highlights all the highs of a new relationship. It is about taking advantage of the time you have with that special someone to have fun and live in the moment. This song teaches us that life is too short to not have fun and this is a lesson we should all learn, especially with this past year being mostly in quarantine. Both of these songs are perfect for summertime, and they show Smith’s true talent.
“I love how different each of these songs are. ‘I’m Fine’ plays on that classic response from people, and most of us can relate to not being ‘fine’ yet still trying to play cover up. Especially when you’ve run into that person that you used to be with while they are out on the town with friends or on a date and they ask, ‘how have you been?” Smith says in a recent press release. “’Sounds Like a Good Time’ is literally about taking advantage of a moment to paint the town. The melody, the guitar solos, and the lyrics are all about breaking free of whatever is going on in your world to have a great time and focus on the ‘now’.”
