New Artist Preston D Barnes released his debut single “Add A Little You” on Friday, May 20th. This singer-songwriter from the U.K. is hoping to make an impact in the American market.
Barnes served in the British Army for over 20 years. For his first 16 years in service, he performed in over 38 countries as part of The Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers. Wanting to focus on his musical pursuits, Barnes was featured on The Voice U.K. Since his television
appearance, he performed the national anthem at the Army vs. Navy Rugby Match. In 2019, he signed with Sonic Boom Records with a desire to pursue country music. Barnes is currently working on his debut solo album.
“Add A Little You” is a feel-good track that is being released just before summer officially hits. The guitar beat creates a familiar sound that can’t help but get stuck in your head. Barnes’ voice also has a simplicity to it that makes it seem effortless. His casual style can be felt through the lyricism and tone conveyed.
The track details the feeling of liking someone so much, that you can’t get enough of them. Barnes exclaims, “I wanna add a little rain to this Saturday so we don’t gotta get out of bed / I wanna add a little wine to an empty glass and get it going to our heads / I wanna add a little smile to your pretty face, keep it there all night long.”
It’s a sweet and comforting track that takes everyone back to falling in love. When the chorus comes through and Barnes sings, “wanna take a little me, and add a little you,” it sounds believable. It will be interesting to see what the rest of this musician's body of work sounds like.
