Ray Fulcher ‘Larkin Hill Mixes’ EP Review

Multi-hit songwriter Ray Fulcher certainly knows the power of great lyrics and how to find the simple parts of life and turn them into incredible stories for his songs. Eight songs that he co-wrote with his good friend Luke Combs ended up on the 2020 CMA Album of the Year What You See Is What You Get and eight more ended up on This One’s for You and four of those songs – “When It Rains It Pours,” “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Lovin’ on You” and “Does to Me,” went to the top of the country music charts.

Today, September 17th, he is putting out his own project of songs that introduces his clever lyricism, storytelling ability, and unique artistry to the genre. The Larkin Hill Mixes features five songs that were produced by Jonathan Singleton and co-written by Fulcher.

His current radio single “Girl In It” highlights the romantic notion of how every little thing is affected when you are in love. “If your heart’s on fire / If everything’s spinning / If you’re going out of your mind / I bet there’s a girl in it”. James McNair and Erik Dylan helped Fulcher create a dynamic story that is gaining Fulcher more and more fans each day.

One of the best songs on the project “Damn If It Didn’t Hurt” will get you hooked from the moment it starts and the story of a young boy continually getting hurt whether it was from falling off a bike, getting tackled in football, or ultimately getting his heart crushed, he would do it all over again because the best things in life, they don’t come easy. “Hurt like hell, the hell she put me through, tore my heart all apart, broke it right in two / Just an old chance taker, takin’ on a heart breaker but I wouldn’t change one thing / I’d do it all over cause if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it wouldn’t worth a damn if it didn’t hurt”

Lyrically and sonically, Fulcher takes the simple parts of country living and amplifies them into tracks that are perfect for a long drive, a crisp fall night bonfire, or a tailgate with friends. “Bucket List Beers” highlights special moments in life by commemorating them with a cold beer. Whether it’s prom night, celebrating a buddy coming home from the military, or just cheersing to a good life Fulcher sings about it making those memories and beers count.

You can catch these songs and more this fall as Ray Fulcher is currently on the What You See Is What You Get Tour, with Luke Combs, and he also will support Ashley McBryde on select dates. For his full list of tour dates head to https://www.rayfulchermusic.com/tour
