Reba McEntire, one of many queens in country music, has released a unique album, My Chains Are Gone, covering some of the most beloved hymns throughout time. Reba is pairing a DVD alongside the album, which offers a rare recording of her first-ever solo headlining show in 2017. Her album consists of 12 covers and features special guests Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood, The Isaacs, and Lauren Daigle. After years of iconic work and achievements, such as joining the Country Music Hall of Fame, Reba takes a gentle approach with this wholesome production of hymns.
Reba maintains the original nature of each hymn in her covers. She gracefully composes a
rendition of the classic gospel song "I'll Fly Away" in a manner that respects the tune while still pulling together her own Reba twist to it. Her folk-like approach to this well-known song carries listeners away to somewhere peaceful and invites them to sing along with her. In a similar style, "In The Garden / Wonderful Peace (Medley)" carries about a poetic and soothing tune. Reba is joined with the bluegrass gospel group The Isaacs to weave together this gentle medley. Together, they compose a comforting take that genuinely lives to the track's title – evoking a sense of soulfully strolling through a garden. These are the characteristics that make up a heartfelt gospel album.
Continuing with sweet love is the song "Softly and Tenderly" accompanied by Kelly Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood. This dynamic trio of artists, who have all worked within the realms of gospel music before, produced a soft harmony together. A flute appears in the song, which seems to further welcome us into a freeing state of mind – such is the nature of gospel music.
The other highlighted track from her album, "Back To God," features Lauren Daigle, who works in contemporary Christian music and is known for her hit "You Say." The two singers alternate and share verses to the song. With Daigle's support, this acoustic version of the song heightens it to a more emotional and meaningful level. Altogether, Reba McEntire has strung together a heartwarming and welcoming gospel album that many will adore.
