Tenille Arts “Girl To Girl” Album Review

Tenille Arts released her third album aptly titled Girl To Girl on Friday, October 22. One of the most sought-after rising stars in Nashville, Arts is fresh off the What A Song Can Do Tour with Lady A and is ready to share her brand new music.

Arts released her debut album Rebel Child back in 2017. The Canadian singer-songwriter gained even further momentum with the sophomore LP Love, Heartbreak, and Everything In Between. The lead single “Somebody Like That” became a no. 1 hit. Arts has also been a repeated performer at The Grand Ole Opry. Previously released singles from her new album include “Over You Is You” feat. Matt Stell and “Back Then, Right Now.”

Girl To Girl exudes femininity in the purest form. Arts writes about real-life concepts with strength and grace in a way only she can do. “That’s My Friend You’re Talkin’ About” perfectly embodies a message not often talked about in country music. The song is about loving yourself and how you look, a gentle reminder to all the young women to go easy on themselves. “That’s my friend you’re talkin’ about, the one in the mirror you’re looking at now, girl you should borrow my view, so you see what I see in you.”

The title track “Girl To Girl” is a warning about falling for the wrong guy. Arts sings from the perspective of a girl who’s been burned, and now she’s wanting to help the next girl. “That boy only knows how to go, girl to girl.” Another song that depicts the woes that relationships can bring is “Give It To Me Straight.” This track shows what it feels like when you’re waiting to hear what you don’t want to hear.

There are poignant songs on this album about self-reflection. ”High School Sweetheart” helps to showcase her beautiful vocal tone while she sings to her younger self. “You think your whole world revolves in those hallways, but it won’t always, you’ll just have to trust me, one day it’ll just be high school sweetheart.”  “Sweet Sixteen” is a nostalgic track about how our youth carries some of our fondest memories. Arts bears her heart with every song, keeping her younger fans in mind as well as her peers.
