The Best Country Love Songs from the 70s

Love is in the air and in honor of Valentine's Day we've compiled some of the top country love tracks from the 1970s.

1. “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton

Though the most famous version of this song is sung by Whitney Houston, no one can discount the original songwriting by Dolly Parton. It would be a crime if she didn’t end up on this list. Parton is one of the most renowned songwriters in the music industry, especially in the country genre. The unique sound of her voice helps to create an intimate moment with the listener, and while the remake is amazing, the original needs just as much credit.

2. “Danny’s Song” by Loggins and Messina

While it’s not the traditional love song, it not only talks about the love between two people but also the love of a parent for a child. It’s quite endearing and the track feels personal to not only the musicians but to the listeners as well. While not a traditional Valentine’s Day love ode, it’s definitely one to check out.

3. “You Decorated My Life” by Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers is a Country Hall of Fame artist who is responsible for famous songs like “The Gambler," but when it’s Valentine’s Day season, Kenny Rogers has some more fitting tunes. Lyrics like “And you decorated my life / Created a world / Where dreams are a part” convey the importance of this woman in Rogers’ life.

4. “You Lay So Easy On My Mind” by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty

Besides the amazing names, this song is the epitome of old country. The simple yet satisfying harmonies draw the listener in. The pure and unaltered twang in Lynn’s voice is filled with emotion. The blend of the singers voices with the simplistic band (and the unmistakable banjo) create the perfect love song to listen to.

5. “Anywhere (Just Inside Your Arms)” by Charley Pride

From the fiddle chorus used in the song’s introduction, this song can capture a country music fan's heart. The tune is simple and the lyrics aren’t overly complicated. It’s simply a decree of how much Pride loves the woman he’s talking to. It's the perfect song to slow dance to in the kitchen and it’s the perfect song to celebrate your Valentine.
