The Nash New Artist Interview – Carter Faith
Up-and-coming country singer Carter Faith grew up in North Carolina and fell in love with music at a young age. “I just remember listening to music in the car with my grandpa, my parents, and my siblings,” she tells us. “None of my family was musical. We all just loved listening to amazing music and seeing concerts.” She vividly remembers listening to Eric Church with her dad and cassette tapes with her grandpa; she describes them as her favorite memories from her childhood.
Faith always loved poetry and reading and she wrote her first song at 16-years-old. She continued to write as she got older and then decided to attend Belmont University for songwriting.“I always loved words and rhyming and how it connected, but once you do it yourself, it’s such a cool feeling,” she says.
Once she realized she could go to school for something in the music field, she also knew that music could be a potential career path instead of just a hobby. “It was kind of a whirlwind and I just went full speed ahead. Very spontaneous. Really didn’t think about it,” she exclaims. Now, Faith is in the process of preparing for the release of her debut EP.
The title of the project “Let Love Be Love” came from Faith’s epiphany that she wasn’t taking herself too seriously while making it. “I realized all these songs were unapologetic and I wasn’t analyzing any of the emotions I was writing about,” she tells us. Faith got to record the EP in the famous Blackbird Studio in Nashville. She also got to write songs with both Sean McConnell and Steve Moakler: two songwriters she admires. “There’s something so magical about creating a project with people who are also really excited about it,” she exclaims with a giddy tone. “And finding the ways the songs intertwine and what they all mean to me and what they say about me.”
The lead single for the EP “Joyride” was the last song written for the seven song project. It’s upbeat, breezy, carefree, and the perfect track for a long, summer road trip. Faith’s goal for the track was simple: Create a fun song. “It just felt like one of those songs that you hear in a stadium and that I wanted people to sing back to me,” she says. “I wanted people to feel the whole community vision that I had for it.”
“Buzkilla” track number two from the EP and written by Faith and Jonny Price, is available to listen to now on Apple Music after pre-saving the EP. “We wanted to write a non-judgmental anthem,” Faith explains. “It’s so easy to judge people and I think I needed a song that said not to do it.”

The full EP is set to come out on Friday, August 20th. For the rest of the year she plans on finishing school, releasing a music video for “Joyride,” and recording acoustic sessions where she plays the new songs from the EP. “I was lucky enough to have some of the writers of my songs, produce the songs, and sing on them so I wanted to bring all of that in and showcase how big of a fan I am of these people,” she explains. Faith also had the opportunity to play at the distinguished Ryman Auditorium on Monday, July 26th for Whiskey Jam’s sold out 10th anniversary party. It was her debut performance at the venue and she closed out the show with a stellar performance.
