The Re-emergence of Mason Ramsey
Mason Ramsey is a teenage country music star who has the internet to thank for his fame. He got his start back in 2018 when he was only 11; Ramsey was seen singing Hank Williams’ “Lovesick Blues” in the middle of a Walmart in Illinois. The video went viral with over 25 million views in a few days, and he quickly became known as “The Yodeling Boy.” Soon after, Ramsey was featured in nearly everything one could think of. From guest-starring on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to having a set at Coachella, he became quite the pop-culture phenomenon.
As the years have gone by, Ramsey seemed to disappear. Though he was still making music and put out both an EP and an album, it wasn’t as known as his first viral encounter.
In 2022, Ramsey reemerged as an artist. His 2019 song, “Before I Knew It” blew up on TikTok overnight. Ramsey’s own TikTok consisted of him working at Subway and dancing with customers to his hit.

These videos are beyond popular for many reasons. To the internet’s surprise, Ramsey’s song, “Before I Knew It” is simply a great song. It’s catchy, twangy, and upbeat. Who wouldn’t want to dance to it? The videos also show Ramsey more grown-up. It is an incredible thing to watch an artist like Ramsey, who everyone was fascinated with when he was just a kid, grow in his career and become a young adult.
