Top Songs Written by Emily Weisband

Emily Weisband is a pop-country singer-songwriter who has written hits for a range of artists. She first became popular when her writing of “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott &The Scott Family took home a Grammy in 2017. Since then, she has composed for artists like Lady A, BTS, and Keith Urban. In 2019, Weisband started writing music for herself and released a single called “Identity Crisis." Weisband is a gifted songwriter, so in her honor, let’s look at the top five songs she has written.

1. “Good Time To Be Alive” by Lady A

“Good Time To Be Alive” was released in 2017 on Lady A’s album, Heart Break. This upbeat melody was featured as the seventh song on the album that was nominated for CMA’s Album of the Year in 2017. The song was written by the writing trio of Weisband, Will Weatherly, and busbee. They all were on a trip to Florida when inspiration struck. With good vibes in mind, the lyrics reflect that feeling: “Yeah, it's a good, good, good time to be alive / This world could throw me anything with you by my side / It's a crazy, perfect, messed-up, beautiful ride / It's a good, good, good time to be alive."

2. "Make or Break" by Dan + Shay

Country duo Dan + Shay have blown people away with their self-titled third studio album, Dan + Shay. Released in 2018, this album topped several charts, including a well-earned number two spot on Billboard Top US Country Albums of 2019. Weisband was one of many country stars who was credited for her work on the album. She worked alongside Kelly Clarkson and Keith Urban who focused on the musical aspects of the songs. “Make or Break” is one of the more pop-country sounding songs on the album, which makes it clear that Weisband was a key composer for it.

3. “Break First” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

“Break First” is featured on McGraw and Hill’s first collaborative album, The Rest of Our Life. The album was released in honor of their 21st wedding anniversary. “Break First” slows the order of the songs down in the fifth position on the album. Weisband received some creative assistance from Jerry Flowers and Ashley Gorley while writing this duo’s love song. “Break First” shows Weisband’s extensive range as a songwriter. The slower melody and more romantic lyrics offered a challenge for Weisband’s traditional pop-country sounds. However, Weisband blows her fans away again as she creates the classic love song for iconic duo McGraw and Hill.

4. "Team" by Noah Cyrus and MAX

“Team” was a collaboration with Noah Cyrus and MAX. Cyrus, herself, is a songwriter and had a lot of inspiration for this piece. The song is about letting your significant other know that you will always be on their team, which was highly relatable for newly married MAX. The team was ready to work on this song, but they needed the help of Weisband’s incredible writing abilities to make their inspirations into a reality. Released in 2018, “Team” came to fruition.

5. "Same Heart" by Keith Urban

“Same Heart” was released on Keith Urban’s tenth studio album Graffiti U. The album was high up on the charts in 2018 with major producers like Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco, and Greg Carter. Weisband wrote alongside Urban, Jason Evigan, and Jordan Minton on“Same Heart” which is full of Urban’s raw emotion. After the song was released, he tweeted “I realize that a piece of me will always wonder where you are. Along her co-writers, Weisband captured his true feelings and emotions, which she always seems to do so well. She has also written “Steal My Thunder” and “Gettin’ In The Way” for Urban’s other studio albums.
