William Reames of Boy Named Banjo Talks "Heart In Motion" and Touring with Kip Moore

Country music quintet Boy Named Banjo is constantly out on the road, playing shows across the country. Tour life, it seems, has become like second nature to the five, and in their latest single, "Heart In Motion," they touch on the rush of emotions that comes with the nonstop lifestyle.

William Reames, the acoustic guitar and harmonica player of the group, discussed the track stating, "We're always traveling, we're always away from our families, so it really embodies that feeling of being out doing what you love, but also rushing to get back home to be with your family after a long tour." He continues, "It kind of brings the listener into our world a little bit."

The new single, written by band member Barton Davies alongside Jon Sherwood and Oscar Charles, features immersive lyricism like, "And your picture on my dash keeps me moving so fast / El Paso to Memphis / I used to carry this load all alone / And never get to where I was gon' / 'Til your love put this heavy heart in motion." The verses are dim and soft until the chorus pops with an upbeat, folksy sound that Boy Named Banjo is known for. "You don't hear the banjo as much in country [music] anymore, but that, in combination with the electric guitar and our more alternative side and our harmonies, set us apart a little bit," Reames states.

The band is currently on the road with Kip Moore, acting as support for his 'Fire On Wheels Tour' that commenced earlier this month. Despite being at the beginning of the run of dates, Reames notes that he's already learned something from the singer. "It starts with the fans. I've never seen an artist quite like Kip in the sense that everything he does is for his fans and to make them feel special for liking his act," he says. "That's something that we would definitely want to take away."

Speaking of fanbases, Boy Named Banjo has a yearly tradition with their followers that is slowly approaching. The group, full of Nashville natives, hosts a post-Thanksgiving show in the city. It started years ago as a way for their college friends to come see them play since they were home for the holidays. "We just continued that tradition on so that everyone we grew up with can make it out to a show," Reames exclaims.

For the rest of 2022, the band aims to keep touring and playing live music whenever and wherever they can, especially due to the pause of live music because of the pandemic. "For our music making, being out on the road is inspiring," he notes. "When we get home and have some down time to really think about what we went through, what we saw, that's kind of when we end up putting pen on the paper."
