You're Invited To: 90s Country Night Presented by The Nash News
The Nash News is excited to put on its second '90s Country Night on Thursday, August 3rd from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Nashville at Assembly Food Hall in the Fifth and Broad complex.
Artists performing include Greylan James, Leah Marie Mason, Ashley Ryan, Grant Brown, Caleb Seth, Hobbs Sisters, David Tucker, Brandon Davis, and Allie Colleen.
Greylan James
At just 5 years old, Greylan James’ papaw gifted him his first guitar. From that moment on, whenever anyone would ask what he wanted to do in life, he responded, “I’m going to be a Country Music star.” Shortly thereafter, Greylan met his hometown hero, Kenny Chesney, who told him to “stay in school and learn how to write songs” - which is exactly what he did.
The Knoxville, Tennessee native moved to Nashville to pursue his first major publishing deal when he was just 18 years old. In 2018, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) signed Greylan to a global publishing deal. He was featured on NBC’s The Voice and ranked one of the best guitarists in the world under 21 by Guitar Center Magazine’s Brotherhood of the Guitar Top 100.
Greylan has written songs for some of Country Music’s most notable artists, such as Chris Young, Blake Shelton, and Chris Janson. In 2020, he received a phone call from Chesney who let him know that he was cutting Greylan’s song “Happy Does.”
Leah Marie Mason
Leah Marie Mason never tries to be perfect. Instead, the North Carolina-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and artist allows her edges to frame an intimate and infectious brand of Country that could resonate from a small town to the top of a big city. By doing so, she energizes the genre with universal pop appeal. By the age of 11, Leah started performing in a classic rock band with her older brother, belting out Heart and Pat Benatar covers. After a year at Berklee College of Music, she brought her talents to Nashville's Belmont University. Inspired by everything from the classic songwriting of George Strait, bluegrass of The Steeldrivers, and 21st century sound of Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, she spent countless hours writing and honed a sharp signature style, resulting in her debut single “Far Boy.” Taking the reins of her career, Leah watched YouTube tutorials about uploading media to Spotify, outsourced cover art, and finally decided to launch a TikTok page to promote “Far Boy.” The song played over a video captioned, “I called my ex to hang out so he could listen to this song I wrote about him,” and it organically exploded with 13M views. After amassing tens of millions of views on TikTok and cracking over 20M streams across platforms independently, Leah made a warm introduction to fans with her debut EP Honeydew & Hennessy, out now, a collection of six carefully crafted tracks that serve as a time capsule for the growth and changes her life experiences have brought her. Continuing to magnify the scope of Country and the accessibility of pop all at once through her raw and vulnerable storytelling, “My only hope is that it can inspire someone else as well,” Leah states.
Ashley Ryan
With an “abundance of firepower” (Billboard), the Corona, California native is taking Nashville’s music scene by storm. An early penchant for poetry led to a natural progression into songwriting at 16, when her grandfather gifted her her first guitar. “I didn’t have anyone to sing my songs, so I started singing them myself, and it just seemed to work.” Shortly after discovering her vocal talents, and after giving college a try in her home state, she ventured east to Nashville to continue her journey (and college at Belmont University) in country music’s capital.
Shortly after the move to Music City, her musical talents were recognized by 4x GRAMMY® Award-winning country star Keith Urban at a private event. A quick dialogue between the two led to an impromptu duet of Keith’s hit song “Without You” - ultimately leading to an invitation to perform the duet again at Urban’s sold-out show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Capturing emotions from heartbreak to honky tonk, Ashley’s music provides listeners with an energy and authenticity that gives listeners a classic country tune with a modernized twist. “I grew up singing ‘Before He Cheats’ and ‘Gunpowder and Lead.’ I really love fiddle in a song - I love that old traditional country, the grungy female country with the sassy drop D guitar and rolling banjo. So that’s what you’ll get from me.”
Grant Brown
As a singer and songwriter, Grant Brown was born, raised, and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. As a lifelong Clemson Tiger, Grant spent many weekends in Death Valley and on the water at Lake Hartwell with friends and family.
At a young age, Grant was given his first guitar by his parents where he taught himself how to play chords and was drawn to singing. He was part of his church youth choir, praise brand, and later, the lead singer in the band, Sloan Street Groove in college. Grant fell in love with performing for people.
In 2017, Grant auditioned for The Voice in Baltimore, Maryland where he made it to the final round of auditions. In 2019, Grant auditioned for American Idol in Savannah, Georgia where he received the coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood, California. Surrounded by unbelievably talented artists, Grant was inspired to do more, put in more work, and increase his skill sets.
Raised on country, Grant’s musical idols include Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn, and Brad Paisley, however; he also loves artists with unique sounds, clever writing styles, and catchy melodies such as Corey Smith and Jason Mraz. Some of Grant’s current inspirations are Quinn XCII, Kai Straw, Judah and the Lion, and TwentyOne Pilots.
