Understanding Personal Contract Purchase requires looking beyond marketing fluff and examining actual numbers that affect your wallet. Through years of automotive journalism, I've learned that PCP success depends on knowing exactly what you're paying for and why. Most agreements finance only vehicle depreciation rather than purchase price, which explains lower monthly costs compared to standard loans. Car Plus provides clear examples like their representative APR of 21.9% resulting in £185.33 monthly payments on £7,000 borrowed over sixty months. Consider a £20,000 vehicle scenario where 10% deposit leaves £18,000 to finance. If guaranteed minimum future value sits at £8,000, you're actually financing £12,000 depreciation through those monthly instalments. That remaining £8,000 represents your optional final balloon payment.
