After teasing another collaboration on social media, "The Middle" hitmakers Zedd and Maren Morris have teamed up with BEAUZ on a new song titled, “Make You Say," which dropped last Friday.
The new track was co-written by Zedd, Morris, BEAUZ (sibling DJs Bernie and Johan Yang), Charlie Puth, and Jacob Kasher Hindlin. The fresh release was an incredibly collaborative process for all involved.
This is the second collaboration between Zedd and Morris, who released the hit single “The Middle” in 2018, successfully capturing what turned out to be lightning in a bottle: an EDM song that actually had heart. Zedd claims that the soul and the emotional phrasing come from Morris, and that “Make You Say” is no different.

Right off the bat, "Make You Say” does not have the same impact as “The Middle." Morris' vocals start off soft and floaty before heading into a dismal, bouncing chorus. “Make You Say” lacks the zestful charisma and artful orchestrations that “The Middle” had. This time around, the collaboration instead, relies on synth marimba and a pitched-up hook.
That being said, Morris is still the highlight. Her natural Nashville grittiness can still be heard amongst the special effects that both Zedd and BEAUZ produce; no one buffed out her unique country sound and that's what makes her versatility so unique. Even after the playful effects are added, her vocals are clearly a top priority.
