Country Songs for Mother's Day

There are so many beautiful, country songs that thank and honor mothers for all that they do and what they mean to us. To celebrate, there are the top five songs that represent love for mothers. Happy Mother’s Day!

1. "Mama's Song" by Carrie Underwood

“Mama’s Song” is sure to tug at the heartstrings of any bride and mother of the bride-to-be. This song is written from the point of view of a daughter getting ready to get married. She is reassuring her mother that her husband is a good, loving man and that she has nothing to worry about. Anyone close to their mother will cry at Underwood’s lyrics, specifically, “Mama, there's no way you'll ever lose me / Giving me away is not goodbye / As you watch me walk down to my future / I hope tears of joy are in your eyes."

2. "Mother Like Mine" by The Band Perry

This ballad is off of their second studio album, Pioneer. “Mother Like Mine” was the only song written solely by the group members who are all siblings. They dedicated the song to their mother, Marie. The lyrics are incredibly sentimental to the band. The song came about one day when the band thought about what the world would be like if their mother raised it the way she raised them. The song truly honors Mama Perry and mothers everywhere.

3. "Fancy" by Reba McEntire

In this song and video, Fancy, who is played by McEntire in the visual, reflects on the past memories of how her mom encouraged her to get away and become something more. The track honors mom who wants more for their children.

4. “Coat of Many Colors” by Dolly Parton

This iconic song is based off of true events from Parton’s childhood. She did, in fact, have a coat of many colors that her mother made for her. In this song, it gives the lesson that you should be proud of who you are, which is implied by her mother. Parton’s mother worked hard to give her the best life growing up. Within this song, we can see Parton’s appreciation for her mother’s hard work with the chorus, “My coat of many colors / That my momma made for me / Made only from rags / But I wore it so proudly / Although we had no money / I was rich as I could be / In my coat of many colors / My momma made for me."

5. “In My Daughter’s Eyes” by Martina McBride

“In My Daughter’s Eyes” is a beautiful song about what a mother looks like through a daughters eyes. McBride is singing about her daughter who has saved her life and shown her what it is like to be a mother and know a mother’s love. The ballad is simple, yet sure to make mothers cry tears of joy. The lyrics prove the joy by stating, “And when she wraps her hand around my finger / How it puts a smile in my heart / Everything becomes a little clearer / I realize what life is all about."
