Bryan Ruby Talks New Single "Centerfield" and Debut EP

Bryan Ruby has seamlessly found a way to incorporate two passions in his life: music and baseball. At first, it seemed as though these two paths would never intertwine. However, Ruby is an artist not afraid to take chances that others might shy away from. His previously released song "The Standouts," "Baseball Country," and "Left Field" all use his love of the game to tell deeper messages. Ruby discussed his new single as well as what his music means to him.

As a songwriter, Ruby has penned songs that have appeared on the Texas Country Top 50 chart and the iTunes Country Top 25, and songs he has written have been featured on both Huffington Post and People Magazine. Bryan made history in September 2021 when he became the only active professional baseball player to come out as gay at the time. The inspirational story was featured in 100+ media outlets around the world including CBS, Yahoo, Bleacher Report and Teen Vogue. He started his foundation Proud To Be In Baseball that is dedicated to advocating, educating, and creating opportunities for the next generation of LGBTQ baseball players.

Ruby's music enjoys the laid-back style people gravitate to this time of year. "It's the kind of country music you hear at the ballpark. It's perfect for me right now because the baseball world is my home and that's the music we love. I am on tour this summer singing the National Anthem and God Bless America at different Major League and Minor League ballparks around the country, plus we're doing pregame and postgame shows at those stadiums," shared Ruby.

"Centerfield" was originally released by John Fogerty in 1985. Ruby shared why he wanted to release a cover by saying, "I decided to record Centerfield to celebrate my last year playing pro baseball. It's one of my all-time favorites, and a song that has been a big part of my life because it gets played almost every day at the ballpark. I thought it would be really cool to put my own spin on it. I love John Fogerty's original version from 1985 but I haven't seen a whole lot of cover versions since then, especially considering how iconic of a song it is."

Ruby is set to release his debut EP, Diamonds Are Forever, in October. "The EP is a lot like Centerfield in that it is a full tribute to my time on the ball field. The story themes are about getting older, looking back at growing up and also looking forward towards the next stage of my life," said Ruby. The singer is certainly on track to do big things both on, and off the stage.
