On The Verge: 5 New Country Releases
As every Friday passes, there are numerous songs that come out from independent country artists whose songs are well-written, beautiful, or simply fun. We’ve compiled a list of songs that were released last week by independent and rising acts that deserve much love and attention. Who knows, you might find your next favorite song.
1. "Get Away From Me" by Spencer Crandall
Crandall incorporates a pop sound into his country-style seamlessly. This song feels easy-going and natural coming from the singer. The lyrics are reflective as he sings about trying to figure out who he wants to be. There can be frustration in trying to shift through the different versions of ourselves we portray to others, and Crandall manages to put that into music.
2. "Suwannee" by Pillbox Patti
Patti delivers a song that embraces her signature style and fascination with lyrics. The track is an ode to the Suwannee river that made her into the woman she is today. It has a certain groove to it that intrigues the listener from the very beginning. If there was a way to combine the Eagles with a down-home country sound, this song can do it.
3. "Feathered Indians" Cover by Conner Smith
Smith has often played this Tyler Childers hit song in his sets, and now he has made his cover available for everyone. The lyrics and melody that Childers made famous seem to blend just right with Smith's vocals. With the added groove from the guitar Smith plays, this track feels enhanced while keeping with the song's organic nature.
4. "One More Night" by Miko Marks
The opening instrumentals invite fans to take it back to soul-country music. Marks' commanding voice is possessed with rhythm and depth. The song is about the desire to go back to that one special night. Everyone can relate to wanting to re-live moments, and this song captures the essence of that perfectly.
5. "Bandaid" by Katie Austin
This fiery track from Austin is about what it takes to get over someone. Patching up hurt feelings with a quick fix is what everyone has tried to do at least once. Calling those quick fixes a bandaid is the perfect comparison. Her vocals and soaring melody will make this song stay in anyone's head.
